Jay-Z demuestra más que nunca en The Blueprint 3 su faceta de empresario y, aunque quizás no esté a la altura del magnífico predecesor American Gangster, el disco supone una innegable mejoría al empacho de creatividad de The Blueprint 2. El rapero acierta con el elenco de colaboraciones y regala al disco una nueva dimensión de R&B contemporáneo que complementa a la perfección el hip-hop más puro del neoyorquino.
En los tiempos que corren (musicalmente hablando), Jay-Z se propone clamar una música genuina y auténtica, atreviéndose a matar el auto-tune en ‘D.O.A.’ (Death of Autotune), un tema de ritmo vibrante y violento con el que el rapero logra ensalzarse a sí mismo como referente musical. En ‘Hate’ se recupera el beat ochentero del Kanye West que figura como colaborador y productor, mientras que ‘Young Forever’ es una atrayente versión urban del clásico de Alphaville, aunque se entiende que algunos críticos la consideren hortera al romper con la línea general del disco.
En cuanto a las colaboraciones más ilustres, ‘Empire State of Mind’ es sin duda un himno moderno de Nueva York, algo que echábamos en falta desde la propuesta de Sinatra. El tema, que tiene un irrefutable gancho comercial, goza del estupendo apoyo de Alicia Keys en los coros y de una letra memorablemente castiza. Rihanna y el incombustible Kanye West dan voz a uno de los temas más destacados del álbum, ‘Run This Town’, aunque las colaboraciones acaban eclipsando casi por completo la intervención de Jay.
Quizás The Blueprint 3 destaque más por las contribuciones vocales que por el contenido real de las canciones, pero es innegable que Jay-Z ha logrado (otra vez) ensamblar sonidos dispares como el hip-hop, el R&B e incluso electro en un puzzle musical único e incomparable con cualquier otro rapero ahora mismo. Su única recriminación, si se puede considerar como tal, es que el elepé esté demasiado orientado a las listas de ventas y no a complacer a los seguidores más fieles del rapero.
